I visited a lighthouse for the first time back in 1996, when I was travelling around Australia with a girlfriend. Towards the end of our holiday we stopped in Byron Bay and decided to go and visit the local lighthouse.

It was a lovely place, where the lush green of the grass, the vivid blue of the sky and the bright white of the lighthouse resulted in a cheerful composition through my viewfinder. It was then that I started collecting books, photos, miniatures and other bits and pieces on lighthouses.

Later on I started photographing them and this is why I decided to set up this website. I have always found that while there is plenty of information available on US and French lighthouses, our own are not nearly as well documented for us pharologists.
